Holo Holo

Holo Holo was created by the Takashigie's, a husband and wife team, in 1948. Mr. Takashige managed production and sales while Mrs. Takashige did the design. They made low to medium-priced garments and in 1960 they were doing annual sales of $100,000.

As a young man, Bob Takashige worked at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel as a bartender. There he watched the owner of one of the earliest garment manufacturers enjoying the luxuries the hotel had to offer with his guests, mainland store buyers. After serving in the army, that memory of the successful local business man encouraged him to starting his own clothing company.

The words Holo Holo in Hawaiian mean "To go for a walk, ride, or sail for pleasure". Their label had a small graphic bamboo design in the left corner and a geometric pattern on the right corner. Their factory was located at 1428 E Makaloa street, and was close to many other new local garment manufacturers that were setting up shops in the area.
