Silver Hawaii was owned by the Bushberg family of Honolulu in the 1950's. Their son Jerry graduated from New York Fashion Institute and was credited for being the "spirit behind Silver".
They began their business as importers, bringing in garments made in Japan for sale in the US. In 1956, they began manufacturing garments under the labels Tiki Sportswear and South Pacific Leisure.
