Penny's, also known as J.C. Penney Company Inc., is a chain of mid-range American department stores based in Plano Texas. Their stores were located in downtown areas across the United States. They operated 1,600 stores in all 48 states in 1941 and by 1956 they were advertising in national magazines like Life.
During this time they carried a collection of Hawaii-influenced versions of their own Aloha Shirts manufactured in Japan. The shirts were less expensive and often
lacked the artistic, authentic quality of the original shirts made in Hawaii.
