
In the mountain valleys around the Hawaiian Islands bootleggers often brewed "Okolehao" from ti roots. Mark Yamanaka memorialized them, their activity and their brew, often referred to as "White Lightning" in the name of his shirt company.
Once Hawaii's only distilled liquor, it was said to be prized by the King. This Hawaiian moonshine, with a flavor of its own, was popular during the war with the United States military personnel located at bases around the Islands.
They made beautiful shirts in Hilo, Hawaii from the late 1940s through the 1960s. The label featured an image of the ti plant.
