
Miss Hawaii was a division of Kamehameha Garment Company marketed to women. Kamehameha Garment company was founded in Hawaii in 1936 by Herb Briner who designed their fabrics, did the material purchasing and also took care of local Hawaii sales. Their initial product was raw silk aloha shirts.
By the early 1960s, Kamehameha had a mainland sales office in Los Angeles and two sewing plants; one located in Honolulu and the other in Hilo on the Big Island.
The company was named after King Kamehameha the Great who conquered the Hawaiian Islands and formally established the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1810.
