Liberty House's retail roots go back to 1850, and by the time Hawaii became a State in 1959, Liberty House had a block long upscale department store in down town Honolulu. Over on the windward side, they had a smaller department store in the beach town called Kailua. And close to the Ocean,they had a substantial resort store in the center of Waikiki.
Liberty House and other prominent retailers often requested that manufacturers sew their own store label into their shirt orders. This gave retailers a prestigious exclusive with their own "private labeled" shirts. With the added words, "trade wind fashions", their label also sported a whimsical, small two man sailing canoe with a fun horizontally striped, red and white sail.
