Lauhala Sportswear owners Alma and E.C. Ching opened for business soon after the war. Their first shop was located above the Honolulu Cafe, on the third floor near the corner of Fort and Beretaina streets. They chose to make the Lauhala tree their trademark and supplied stylish men’s and women's garments to the best retail outlets and departments stores in the islands and on the mainland. Lauhala also created the first Hawaiian print men's sports coat that became very popular in the mid 60's.
