Kawaihau hand painted island scenes on the front and backs of solid shirts in the late 1940's - early 1950's. They hand painted and air brushed on shimmering drapey rayon, creating dreamy island vignettes in exquisite colors.
The Kawaihau label read, "Originators & manufacturers of hand painted apparel made in Honolulu. With 2 red hibiscus and a let framing their label, they also included a compass rose and the outline of 8 Hawaiian Islands.
