Diane

Diane Uchimura started in the Hawaiian garment industry in the late 1930's designing for several other firms before she ventured into business on her own. In 1943, with a label bearing her name, she started making primarily Women's wear in a small factory at 1540 Makaloa street with 16 machines producing an Asian-inspired, sophisticated line. Like most manufacturers of those days, she would make men's Aloha Shirts to coordinate with her orders for Women's apparel.
