An incredibly well balanced vertical border design in classic navy with touches of light blue on a stark white background make this a stunning vintage Hawaiian shirt. The shirt front, collar, back, long sleeves and cuffs are perfectly engineered and equally balanced.
The motifs have more of a New England feel which is also similar to many of the Hawaiian quilts that were hand sewn by skilled women in Hawaii. Quilt motifs often were stylized botanical designs in bold colors on white grounds. These could have been stylized ulu or bread fruit leaves in the main vertical square elements.
There is also a small hand stitch like line on the vine motif which could have also been a direct influence from Hawaiian quilts.
