Kuu-Ipo 003

A collage of full-color postcards from 1940s Hawai‘i, this aloha shirt from Kuu-Ipo is the perfecting marketing tool for tourism to the state. A woman decked in a pareo, smiles with a tray of hibiscus flowers. A group of kimono-clad women stand outside a Shinto temple. A plantation worker takes a break under the shade of sugar cane. There’s even a snapshot of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, called the Pink Palace of the Pacific and one of the most iconic hotels in Waikīkī, complete with palm trees and an empty beach.

Translated, the Hawaiian word Kuu-Ipo means “sweetheart” which is an appropriate label name for this print.
