Kiilani 001

Kiilani was a brand created by Alfred Shaheen in the 1950s. Exclusivity was important in those days, so manufacturers had different labels to sell to  different stores. Shaheen had multiple labels that allowed them to sell to just about all the retailers that wanted to buy their garments.

For the Hawaiians, fishing was as much a livelihood as an art and sport.  Shaheen’s artists hand-painted this design showing native fishermen in floral pareau trunks spearing tropical fish with pronged sticks.
