Asian-inspired motifs made for popular aloha shirt designs in the ’40s and ’50s, and Honolulu-based Kahana jumped on this trend, too. This short-sleeved shirt features scenes from Japan, a morning pilgrimage of sorts across a bridge, past a pagoda and fishing boats, through a small village lined with trees toward a snow-capped Mount Fuji. The villagers walk or ride horses dressed in traditional garb, some with walking sticks. The red leaves behind the temple, with a brown torii (traditional Japanese gate) indicate the change of seasons.
