Jantzen 001

Jantzen made aloha shirts? Yes, this Oregon-based swimwear company created a line of Hawaiian-inspired shirts in the early ’50s to jump onboard with the aloha shirt trend. This rare short-sleeved shirt features various flower designs in earthy tones, complimented with red and green laua‘e (Phymatosorus scolopendria), an indigenous fern to Hawai‘i. They are easily identified by their glossy green leaves with wart-like spore clusters on their backside. The Hawaiians used laua‘e to scent their kapa cloth and the leaves are often used in lei.
