Duke Kahanamoku 032

Duke Kahanamoku and a New York garment company, Cisco collaborated and created a Duke Kahanamoku sportswear collection together in 1950.  Their collection was distributed to better stores across the country.

Duke felt that you don’t need a coat and tie in Hawaii for formal affairs, just a beautiful long-sleeve Hawaiian print Aloha Shirt. Nobody wore them better and looked more sensational than the Duke.

Out of a deep midnight navy ground, jump grenade-like, stylized art deco pineapples.  They created a two-way print where the pineapples were either facing down or up. To accompany the long sleeves, a breast pocket was added to the right shirt front.

Ernest Borgnine wore this print in the epic classic movie, From Here to Eternity.
