Olympian swimmer Duke Kahanamoku and New York garment company, Cisco, collaborated and created a Duke Kahanamoku sportswear collection in 1950. This collection was distributed to better stores across the country.
This black, short-sleeved shirt features an Asian-inspired motif paired with a Hawaiian design: blue and gold circles with different limu (seaweed) renderings inside. (Sadly, one of the sea plants looks invasive.) The black backdrop makes these designs vibrant and dynamic.
