Duke Kahanamoku 023

Olympian swimmer Duke Kahanamoku and  New York garment company, Cisco, collaborated and created a Duke Kahanamoku sportswear collection in 1950. This collection was distributed to better stores across the country.

These palms standing tall against a black background create a dramatic short-sleeved shirt. They’re swaying slightly in the evening tradewinds and their trunks and leaves painted pink by the setting sun. Behind this grove and over the water loom sunset-tinged mountains.

This shirt features a border design that was cut “across the goods,” which requires special attention in the cutting room to ensure the fronts will line up precisely.
