Duke Kahanamoku 021

Cisco was a sportswear company in New York that made an arrangement in 1950 to make shirts with Hawaii’s legendary swimmer, surfer and ambassador of Aloha, Duke Kahanamoku.

A brilliant tropical oasis of colorful palms frame a waterfall with long stemmed anthiriums and spike palms. Soft rolling hills fill the top portion of the shirt.  This shirt features a border design that was cut “across the goods” requiring special attention when spreading the fabric and coordinating the patters to assure the palms and waterfall would be symmetrically balanced on the shirt front.  Large empty black spaces on the bottom and sleeves of the shirt enhance the look of the shirt.
