Olympian swimmer Duke Kahanamoku and New York garment company, Cisco, collaborated and created a Duke Kahanamoku sportswear collection in 1950. This collection was distributed to better stores across the country.
This short-sleeved shirt features an Islamic-inspired floral and geometric design on a light yellow fabric that evokes springtime. Running down the side panels is a simple line design with large white stripes and diamond shapes. Moving outward and across the sleeves are circular designs with delicate floral patterns often seen in Islamic art.
