Olympian swimmer Duke Kahanamoku and New York garment company, Cisco, collaborated and created a Duke Kahanamoku sportswear collection in 1950. This collection was distributed to better stores across the country.
Out of a navy background pop the vibrant island flora on this short-sleeved shirt. The bright lime-green leaves and salmon-colored flowers stretch across the bottom of this shirt, as a vine of buds make its way up to the collar. This border design had to be cut “across the goods” and aligned carefully to have the vines climbing symmetrically upwards.
