Olympian swimmer Duke Kahanamoku and New York garment company, Cisco, collaborated and created a Duke Kahanamoku sportswear collection in 1950. This collection was distributed to better stores across the country.
This dramatic blue and yellow geometric design, bold on the velvet brown fabric, is a nod toward Asian-inspired aloha shirts popular at the time. Each circle features different limu(seaweed) renderings inside. The dark backdrop makes these designs vibrant and dynamic.
