Catalina 001

A southern California company, Catalina created a series of outdoors-man designs with carefully placed images on the shirt front and bold images on the back. Appealing to the upland sportsman,  they created this hunting for pheasants shirt.

On this shirt, a hunter with a 20 gauge shotgun takes aim at ring-necked pheasant flying over the prairie grass. The hunter wears a solid color jacket and cap characteristic of the 1940’s. The pheasants were imported from China and were the most popular upland game bird to hunt.  This shirt must have appealed to the great number of hunters who enjoyed the hunt and the taste of these two to three pound birds.

The words, “A California Hand Print” are on the bottom of the label.  located in Hermosa Beach, California Hand Print  had a full time artist named Virginia Thompson who was well known for her print work.
