Kamehameha 028 Vintage Hawaiian Shirt

This dressy, long-sleeved shirt by Kamehameha shows off one of Hawai‘i’s unique plants. The ‘ama‘u fern (Sadleria cyatheoides) is found in open to shady forests from sea level up to 7,000 feet on Maui and the Big Island. The young fronds, which are typically reddish brown, have an unusual unfurling pattern; this design runs up the middle of this shirt. Across the sleeves are another popular cultivated plant in Hawai‘i — the monstera, a tropical foliage plant native to Mexico and Central America but found in the Islands. The heart-shaped leaves are glossy dark green. Adding to the floral landscape are red and green anthuriums.
